Path of Exile Item Upgrades
The performance of many Path of Exile items can be enhanced by upgrading them. They can provide extra damage, AD or even affixes.
Rare-grade equipment can be superior to modernized Common or Magic equipment because of their high requirements.
Armor
Armor upgrades can be applied to both weapon and armor items. They boost the stats of whatever item they are connected to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of games and purchased from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged using an expert or higher salvage kit to recover upgrades from the items.
The level of an armor's or weapon's upgrade determines the amount of damage it will absorb. The damage absorption of an armor piece will increase as it is upgraded to the maximum upgrade level. It's important to remember that this will increase the weight of the armor, so it must be heavier.
There are a few different kinds of armor upgrades available in the game and they all have distinct effects. Certain upgrades give armor a greater amount of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The name of the armor upgrade will indicate the kind of upgrade an item can receive, as shown below.
Certain upgrades require magic or a combination of technology and magic, which is indicated by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table below. Certain upgrades also require fees for use. These are identified as "Charges" entries in the table. These charges are continuously updated or never expire based on the upgrade.
Iron Ore is the cheapest method to improve your armor. You can locate it by exploring and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more expensive, however, it is available at the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be used on high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide a significant boost to stats and are a worthwhile investment, especially for 1-handed weapons.
The player should be aware that upgrading a piece to the maximum upgrade level will increase its defense value. However, it can also decrease its agility and its speed. This is why it is generally not recommended to upgrade most armor pieces beyond +9, since the defensive boost gained is usually not worth the additional weight and power costs of the upgrades required.

Weapons
Weapon upgrades let players increase the effectiveness of certain aspects of the weapon. For example an upgrade can increase the damage dealt by shotgun shells or the accuracy of a rifle sniper. Certain firearms have upgrades that enhance their inherent characteristics. Frictionless materials (improves stability, reduces the risk of the risk of overheating) and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's velocity for greater damage) are two examples.
The majority of upgrades to weapons require a whetblade. It's one of three Power Dices and a different amount of Minerals and Erons. These are obtained through either doing side quests, or killing a certain amount of bosses or monsters, or by contacting the Weapon Upgrade NPC in Central Flarine.
To upgrade the weapon, equipment set piece or Whetblade you need to visit the NPC [ArmorBoboko. Boboko located in Central Flarine, and pay her an upgrade fee of a specific number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the more bars you will need to complete the upgrade. If you have multiple upgrade materials the cost of upgrading will be less.
In Chapter 2: Season 5, the ways to upgrade your equipment and weapon sets changed a little. Prior to Chapter 2 Season 5 you could upgrade your weapon or equipment by paying a certain amount of Bars. You could do this until your weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level, at which point the upgrades would reset.
It's possible, but it is dependent heavily on RNG. Instead, you're better off going to stores and buying gear with low upgrade levels but good base scores and stat distributions. These will then have a better chance of bringing you the highest tier perks and blessings.
The majority of players will prioritize weapon upgrades for the weapons they most often use to allow them to progress faster. In addition to these players, they should also consider upgrading the weapons that are most popular with their squadmates to make them more powerful and effective. For upgrade item Cases gg , Shepard should consider upgrading the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R to make it more useful when paired with experts in biotics like Grunt and Tali.
Jewels
Jewels are placed in the sockets of armor and weapons, increasing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. Jewelry crafting is the process of making them, where you combine the gemstone with specific reagents on a table. The higher the tier of the gemstone has, the more powerful its secondary effect. These reagents can be gotten from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses in the world, or through collecting Legendary Gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler in exchange for Scattered Prisms and gold.
The Jeweler can improve the quality of gemstones in stages ranging from Crude up to Royal. The stat boosts will vary depending on the tier the jewel is in when it's inserted into weapons, jewelry, or gear.
All levels of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler however, there are some exceptions to this, such as the rare and legendary jewels which require you to be at a high enough level to obtain the privilege of having them. In contrast to other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped with a jewel of the same kind without damaging the original one. You can only replace the gem once in an item of equipment.
The use of more jewels in a movement will make it feel smoother and is usually done for aesthetic reasons. The jewels also improve performance and make a surface harder than steel, so that the repeated friction from pivots do not cause damage to them.
A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs that can enhance the appearance of your shields and weapons. These glyphs give a slight boost in power and can be exchanged, however they're not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs are upgradeable, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be taken out from the inventory, and they are returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components such as traits or aegis can't be exchanged, and can only be retrieved through an upgrade extractor, or salvaging with the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or Ascended Salvage.
Trinkets
Trinkets are small pieces of equipment that provide many tiny but valuable advantages to your hero. They can be obtained in the areas of starting as loot or personal story rewards from vendors, and by completing road interactions. They can be purchased from the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.
The first trinkets a player can unlock is the cloak, which gives a small but useful bonus to movement speed and evasion. The player can then collect necklaces, rings, and amulets in a similar fashion to how they acquired weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has a slot for an upgrade that can be either universal or jewel. Universal upgrades offer smaller bonuses and can be put into any type of equipment while jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded, and only works with specific types of trinkets.
These trinkets also provide additional buffs and skills that are active whenever the hero is not fighting. This allows the hero to be more effective while inactive and also helps to compensate for the absence of a strong team or any slots in the talent tree that would normally be filled with hero's ideal statistics.
As a rule trinket upgrades should be prioritized over BiS (Best in Slot) items you won't replace anytime soon. Also, consider items that have desirable statistics are less significant than the iLevel for the item to be upgraded. This is particularly true if an item has multiple stats you wish to upgrade, since it's generally better to upgrade just one important stat than two sub-optimal ones.
Jungle players often upgrade their yellow trinket to a red one prior to the beginning of the game. Top and mid players on the other hand they will select a pink or green ward, depending on the game's matchup. These choices will have a major impact on the hero's abilities to control maps.
Apart from the things mentioned above, players can also find other trinkets throughout the game in the form of awards and trophies. They can be obtained through completing certain milestones within the story. For instance, finishing a chapter’s main quest or defeating an opponent. These achievements can be seen by selecting the appropriate achievement in the reward tab of the hero menu.
